The Landing

The Landing

The Landing has been welcoming guests since 1800. Thirteen rooms designed by India Hicks, a Wine Spectator award-winning cellar, a chef who has run the kitchen for 15 years, and harbour views from the verandah. You're already nearly booked out most of the year. The website just doesn't reflect any of that yet.

This is a plan to rebrand and rebuild the site so it finally looks like the place it represents.

What we're doing

What we're doing

A full rebrand and rebuild of the site, built on WordPress so you can manage it yourself.

The goal is a site that looks like the property and works the way guests expect. Here's an early look, and what that includes.

An early visual direction for the rebuilt Landing website.
An early visual direction
  • A fresh design across your key pages: homepage, rooms, dining, the island, and contact

  • Built on WordPress, so you can log in and update content yourself anytime

  • Layouts that work properly on phones and tablets, not just desktop

  • A clear booking path. Right now there's no booking link on the homepage, and it takes too many clicks for a guest to reserve a room or a table. We fix that.

  • Updated photography, sized and placed correctly instead of stretched

  • Google Analytics set up so you can see who's visiting and what they're looking at

  • A recorded walkthrough at handoff so you can make edits yourself with confidence

The engagement

The engagement

Here's how the project runs, start to finish. About six weeks from kickoff.

  1. Review and scope

    Week 1
    • A full review of your current WordPress setup: theme, plugins, hosting, and content
    • A clear plan and confirmed timeline before any building starts
DeliverableA written review and the finalized build plan
  2. Design direction

    Weeks 1–3
    • Two brand directions to choose from, each with its own colors, fonts, and overall feel
    • Once you pick a direction, we'll build it out into a full brand guide covering colors, fonts, and logo usage, delivered as a shareable link
    • From there, we'll design one website mockup based on the approved brand, with room to iterate until it feels right
    • A review of how guests move through the site, so the layout points them toward booking
DeliverableTwo brand directions, approved brand guide, approved website mockup
  3. Build

    Weeks 3–5
    • The approved design built out across all key pages: homepage, rooms, dining, the island, and contact
    • A clear booking path added, with a booking link on the homepage and fewer clicks to reserve a room or a table
    • Photos sized, compressed, and placed correctly across the site
    • Built and tested to work cleanly on desktop, tablet, and phone
    • Connected to your current booking system so nothing breaks during the switch
    • A staging link shared along the way, so you can see the site coming together before it goes live
DeliverableThe rebuilt site, live and working on every device
  4. Tracking

    Week 5
    • Google Analytics installed and connected
    • Set up so you can see how many people visit, where they come from, and what they look at
    • Booking and reservation clicks tracked, so you can see what's actually converting
    DeliverableGoogle Analytics live and tracking
  5. Training and handoff

    Week 6
    • A one-hour live walkthrough of your WordPress dashboard, recorded so you can rewatch it anytime
    • How to update pages, swap photos, and manage content yourself
    • A simple reference guide for the edits you'll make most often
    • 30 days of support after launch for any questions
DeliverableRecorded training, reference guide, 30-day support

Where the site stands now

Where the site stands now

A quick technical read on the current site, so you know what we're starting from.

What's working

  • 26 years of search history, with links from the Washington Post, the Financial Times, the Telegraph, and Bon Appétit
  • Strong overall domain reputation
  • Fast server response and a healthy desktop load speed

What needs work

  • The homepage is thin and missing the basics search engines look for
  • No analytics installed, so there's no view into traffic right now
  • The mobile experience is slow and needs attention
  • Images are uncompressed and the layout needs cleanup

Down the road: The Ledger

The Ledger

A travel and community guide for Harbour Island, built on The Landing's name.

After 26 years on the island, The Landing knows Harbour Island better than almost anyone. The Ledger turns that into a guide worth trusting: where to eat, what to do, how to get around, and the island stories most visitors never hear.

It can run as a section of your current site, or grow into its own separate site later. Either way, it gives travelers a reason to find and trust The Landing before they ever book. This is a separate project for whenever you're ready, not part of the rebuild.
